I have some exciting news!
After 15 years in the same studio, I am bursting at the seams – so I am expanding, and moving to a new studio & gallery space. I am currently renovating the new location, and I will be ready to move in early 2017. That being said, I have A TON of stuff to go thru, toss, give away and art to sell so I don’t have to move it. My Birthday is on December 1st and in honor of my 17th annual 29th Birthday – I’m having a studio SALE – starting today! All artwork by Casey Matthews at the Blue Door Gallery is 29% OFF through Friday, December 2nd (11:59PM EST) with the code “HAPPYBIRTHDAY29”
So go ahead and treat yo self! I have lots of new work, so shop online in your underwear: http://www.bluedoor-gallery.com
And stay tuned for the new studio/gallery location and grand opening early next year!
I’m happy to announce that I am now represented by The Wally Workman Gallery in Austin, Texas! Yee Haw!
All my Texas friends can mosey on over to 6th Street in the West End Gallery District – Austin Arts District – and check out the eye candy! Austin is such a super cool cultural town, and I’m so excited to have a presence there.
After all these years of telling everyone I’m really a Texan – I finally have a way to share my art in Texas!
I just posted some new work on my website – so check it out! Most of it is heading to Gallery Orange in New Orleans at the moment. I will also be posting more over the next few weeks – I have been quite the busy little bee this new year, but just slow to photograph. I’m also finishing up some more new work for a big show at Stellers Gallery in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida in March. So save the date: Friday, March 7th! If you live in the North Florida area – come see me!
Please join me October 12th from 5-8PM at the Blue Door Art Studios for the Second Saturday Artwalk. I am the featured artist, displaying my latest abstract paintings. Regular hours are Monday – Saturday, 11AM – 5PM, located at 205 1/2 Centre Street in Historic Downtown Fernandina Beach, FL. Look for the Blue Door and colorful stairs. For more information please call 904.491.7733 or visit www.bluedoorartists.com.
So – I’m the featured artist for the month of October. I’m filling in for another artist that has not been feeling well for several months. I’m not exactly prepared because I have been working on so many commissions lately, but I can at least commit to having my work hung nicely and my studio somewhat clean at least for one week in October! Then I have to deliver or ship most of it bye-bye after that. So if you are around, come say hello and see what masterpieces I have been working on lately. You will freak at how busy I have been!
I like to incorporate text, newspaper, old books, sheet music, sewing patterns, etc, in my work. I find beauty in typeface and symbols, and enjoy merging the structured element with the intuitive. It becomes a form of communication in an otherwise seemingly senseless (non-objective) piece of work.
At one point, I thought I was going to be a graphic designer. However, I did not care for the fastidious aspect of the career, or the computer headaches that followed.
So I have always been drawn to the font. This way I can appreciate the pattern and structure on my terms:
Recently my friend Kerry gave me a few Chinese magazines to have fun with. (see detail below)
